Squaring the Stone Circle
by Robert; Boerman - 28-02-2015

From 1997 till 2005 I have studied the crop circle phenomenon extensively. Besides photographing and measuring almost every single formation in the Netherlands in that time, I also studied the geometry which is hidden in crop circles. And that hidden geometry in crop circles was the reason to start with a new research project about Cymatics, or Water Sound Images. That was in 2005. I wanted to see if it was possible to use only one frequency to create the same geometry as was found inside crop circles of did I had to use more frequencies? Music maybe?

Since September 2014, I live in South Africa. Not for the crop circles this time (South Africa had crop circles in the past), but I moved to South Africa to study the thousands of stone circles which are scattered around Waterval Boven, Mpumalanga. Thousands and maybe millions of stone circles are laying here for God knows how long and so far, almost nobody has a clue who build all those stone circles, when and for what purpose? Are these stone circles indeed ‘cattle kraals’ as scholars want to believe us, and if so, why does a cattle kraal needs to contain ‘squaring the circle’ and other geometry?

Hidden Geometry:
With this new knowledge of hidden geometry in some of the South African stone circles, we should questioning our self if there might be another purpose behind the stone circles than ‘cattle kraals’. I am not convinced that the Koni (woman and children) build the thousands and maybe millions of stone circles as cattle kraals. I think the Koni (and other tribes) adopted the remains of the stone circles as there homesteads but they were certainly not the original builders. But if they did not build the stone circles, who did? And why design a stone circle with a lot of hidden geometry? Therefore, let us have a look at the geometry I found inside one of the many stone circles. And remember, research just has started…

Recently I received the entire photo archive of Johan Heine to study the mysterious South African stone circles. Some of the earials were taken exactly above the center of the stone circles and with that pictures I started my research with. One of the first thing I did was to draw two circles. Shapes with the same color have the same size, otherwise I let you know:

The red and blue circle are placed at the outer wall of the stone circle. The next step was to create a (green) square which fits exactly in the blue circle. I created the green square for three reasons:

  • 1- not really scientific, but it was a hunch...
  • 2- a square is the opposite of a circle...
  • 3- to see if a square would fit between the small red circle and the bend wall at the arrow...

That fits perfectly. After that, I copied the green square to see if it would fit in the red circle. Of course the green square is to big for the red circle because it was made to fit into the bleu circle.

As the green square was made to fit into the blue circle, it is not a surprise that the square does not fit into the red circle. To be sure that the squares are the same size, I kopied the blue circle and placed it around the red circle and square...

You see? Both green squares are the same size and as noted before, shapes with the same color have the same size.

Hmm, that is an interesting design. I have seen that before... Lets remove some geometry to see the result better...

    Squaring the Circle

Hmm, what do we have here? This looks likes 'Squaring the Circle', no...? Even better, it IS Squaring the (Stone) Circle, a problem already proposed by ancient geometers. It is the challenge of constructing a square with the same area as a given circle by using only a finite number of steps with compass and straightedge. Hmm, interesting. Could it be that this stone circle was build by some ancient geometers, and if so, why?

The next step was to copy the green square to see if it would fit at the 90 degree wall:

Next step was to copy and paste some circles....

    And even more...

Hmm, squaring the circle, in a 'cattle kraal'? Why...?

Oke, lets forget about the squaring the circle part, because we do not want that inside ancient stone structures. Science is telling us that people who lived that time were stupid, busy gathering food and did not know about geometry at all. Therefore, let us see if there is more in this stone circle than meets the eye...

The next step was to draw the three inner circles. Every circle with its own color because the are different in size.

Playing with circles and squares, I deceided to see if there was a relation between the three inner circles. What if I take the yellow and orange circle and put them togehter with a square...? Just a hunch...

This certainly looks a lot like squaring the circle, no? Again?! What on earth is going on in this ‘cattle kraal’?

Another hunch was to enlarge the yellow circle to see what the result would be...

With enlarging the yellow circle, I noticed that this circle touches one small circle at the outside and the other in the center. Besides that, a triangle fits exactly in between the two yellow circles. The ratio between the two circles is 4:1. That means that the big circle is 4 times larger than the small one. And this kind of geometry was also discovered by late professor Gerald Hawkins inside anohter type of circles: crop circles...

'Several years ago, astronomer Gerald S. Hawkins, former Chairman of the astronomy department at Boston University, noticed that some of the most visually striking of the crop-circle patterns embodied geometric theorems that express specific numerical relationships among the areas of various circles, triangles, and other shapes making up the patterns'. (Science News: 2/1/92, p. 76)

Bottom line of Hawkins research was that crop circles contain geometric patters based on 'Euclidean Geometry'. Crop circles contain musical geometric design...

Based on what professor Hawkins discovered, I think we could say that stone circles also contain music...?

This drives me nuts! It is not possible that these 'cattle kraal' contain hidden geometry which looks like squaring the circle and music. Impossible...

Forget about the music part, I go on with enlarging circles. The (dark) orange one this time. After enlarging the orange circle, I found out that the enlarged circle touches the other two small circles exactly in the center? Coincidence? Again?

I was curious to see what kind of geometry fits in between the two orange circles. It seem to be a 12-fold geometry...

The next step was to enlarge the small (light) orange circle to see if it would fit somewhere. And it did. The enlarged (light) orange circle touches the (dark) orange circle at the outside and the yellow circle at the center. Well, to be honest, it almost touches the yellow circle in the center...

And if you might have noticed, the enlarged circle around the (light) orange circle, is red and therefore the same size as the lower red circle... Another coincidence?

After this, I just went on copying circles to see if they fit somewhere. And what a surprise. It seems that 4 (light) orange circles fits exactly into the enlarged (red) circle.

The same with the yellow circles which fits perfectly three times into the red circle…

Unfortunately, in this case, the center of the three yellow circles does not fit exactly at the stone circle. Fact is that the three yellow circles fits in the red circle. Another coincidence...

The next step I did was to draw a triangle over the center of the three small circles. After doing that, I deceided to add some squares to the triangle to see what the result would be. The yellow squares are the same size but do not form a 90 degree angle.

Hmm, and what if I add a extra blue circle? It seems to fit perfectly around the 3 squares... Another coincidence? I don't think so.

    Conclusion:
After studying the stone circles and the hidden geometry, I am convinced that the thousands or maybe millions of South African stone circles were not build as cattle kraals. No way. Maybe some tribes adopted the remians of the stone circles and rebuild them as homesteads, but they are certainly not the original builders. The origianal builders of the South African Stone Circles knew what exactly they did. People were not stupid that time, in spite of what science want us to believe...

    To be continued...

    Enjoy,
